Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA)

As part of the development of the new Local Transport Plan 2026 to 2041 (LTP) for Dorset and BCP Councils, an Integrated Impact Assessment has been undertaken to ensure that sustainability, health, equality, and environmental considerations are embedded throughout the plan.

The IIA combines several assessments into one process:

  • Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) – evaluating the environmental effects of the plan
  • Health Impact Assessment (HIA) – assessing potential impacts on physical and mental health
  • Equalities Impact Assessment (EqIA) – ensuring the plan supports inclusive access and avoids discrimination
  • Habitats Regulations Assessment (HRA) – considering potential effects on protected ecological sites

This integrated approach helps identify risks and opportunities early, supports better decision-making, and ensures transport improvements benefit people and places sustainably. The IIA assesses the draft LTP, reasonable alternatives, and cumulative effects with other plans and programmes. It also outlines mitigation and enhancement measures and sets out a framework for monitoring the plan’s long-term impacts.
