Why is there a turquoise tag on my bin or in my box?

The collection crew placed a turquoise tag on your bin or in your glass box because it contained items that we cannot collect.

Glass boxes are for glass bottles and jars only. This includes items like perfume bottles and cosmetic jars. Metal lids can be left on.

We cannot collect:

  • Drinking glasses
  • Oven-proof glass (e.g. Pyrex)
  • Lightbulbs
  • Plastic lids
  • Glass from windows, doors, or greenhouses (also known as plate glass)

What happens if there are incorrect items in my glass box?

If the crew spot incorrect items before emptying, they will leave the box and not collect it. If they only notice the incorrect items after emptying, they may still leave a turquoise tag to let you know.

What do I need to do?

Before your next collection, please remove any items we cannot collect.

Here’s how to dispose of them correctly:

  • Drinking glasses and oven-proof glass: wrap and place in your rubbish bin (black lid)
  • Lightbulbs and plate glass: take to your local Household Recycling Centre (a charge may apply for plate glass, see our recycling centre charges for more details).
  • Plastic lids: remove and place in your recycling bin (green lid)
  • Glass bottles and jars: place loose in your glass box – no bags or liners, please
