Summer shows
Over the summer we attended the:
- Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show CLA breakfast
- Melplash Show
- Dorset County Show
- Celebration of Purbeck nature and wellbeing fair
It was great to chat to people about Nature Recovery Dorset and tell them about opportunities to get involved.
Farm tour and workshop
On 10 September we hosted a nature and sustainable farming tour and workshop in partnership with Dougal and George Hosford for Dorset farmers already involved in or considering sustainable farming practices, as well as people on the groups helping co-produce the Dorset local nature recovery strategy.
The tour showed nature recovery activities happening on a commercial farm business alongside food production and activities were suggested during the workshop that will feed into the strategy.
Nature Recovery Dorset network launch
The Nature Recovery Dorset network has officially launched. You can read the press release here.
Some local businesses have received their stickers by completing nature recovery actions via the Sustainable Business Award: Check out Litter Free Dorset's video to see the award winners.
We're also linking community groups who join the network to Dorset Wildlife Trust's free resources and support, which will soon include a refreshed self-help hub on their website and local case studies.
Mapping progress
A nature recovery version of Dorset Explorer is being created where all the map layers will be made available.
The Nature Areas - National Importance and Nature Areas - Local Importance are complete. Work is underway on the wider environmental benefits map.
The High Opportunity Nature Areas map will be prepared using responses to our call out as well as identifying opportunities using the other maps as a guide.
The potential activities map will be prepared using stakeholder responses and the other maps as a guide.
See mapping for Nature Recovery Dorset for more information about each map and what they will show.
