Dorset Council is refreshing the masterplan for Weymouth town centre to guide future development and investment. This updated plan will focus on:

  • revitalising key development sites
  • enhancing infrastructure
  • improving public spaces to support a vibrant and sustainable town centre

New economic opportunities can bring activity to the town centre and benefit the town and its community.

The aspiration of the masterplan is to make Weymouth town centre a vibrant and resilient place, where residents and visitors enjoy a fulfilling lifestyle and a wealth of opportunities at every stage of life. This would require:

  • the town centre to be a thriving, inclusive place that celebrates Weymouth’s unique built, natural and social heritage
  • the streets to be safe, accessible, and welcoming for all
  • the waterfront to remain an attractive destination, offering activities and events that reflect the town’s coastal identity while supporting jobs, education, recreation and tourism

The masterplan refresh is still in its early stages. As it evolves, it will provide a clear vision to attract investment and deliver these aspirations. Some development opportunities are already being progressed by the Council to kickstart improvements and help realise this long-term vision. Sustainability will be at the heart of Weymouth’s future - prioritising active travel, enhancing green spaces, and embracing renewable energy and climate resilience.

We’re grateful for the feedback received during previous consultation events, which has helped shape the emerging masterplan. To continue the conversation, we’ll be hosting a stand at Weymouth Library on the 12 and 13 September, where residents can learn more about the masterplan process and ask questions.
